Programs

🏀 4th–8th Grade Travel Basketball Program

Boys & Girls

Tryouts & Player Selection

  • Players must register for tryouts on the MLBA website.

  • After two tryout sessions, independent evaluators select players for each grade level.

  • Families are notified by email if their child is selected, with instructions to confirm roster spot and pay the league fee.

Team Structure

  1. Travel teams will compete in games and tournaments across the South Hills area.

  2. One Division I team (top players at tryouts) will be selected for each grade 5–8.

  3. If enough players are available, a Division II team may also be formed at each grade level.

  4. For 4th grade, two teams may be formed with talent divided as equally as possible.

  5. Travel coaches are selected by the Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners after tryouts.

Commitment

  • Season runs November–March.

  • Expect 2–3 practices per week plus games.

  • Travel basketball requires a high level of commitment; players with major schedule conflicts should consider other MLBA programs.

  • Uniform purchase required.

🏀 3rd & 4th Grade 3v3 Development Program

Boys & Girls

Structure & Player Placement

  • All 3rd graders join the in-house Player Development Program.

  • All 4th graders try out:

    • Players ready for inter-township play are placed on a 4th Grade 5v5 Travel Team.

    • Others continue in the 3v3 Development Program, focusing on growth and fundamentals.

  • Families are notified by email to confirm placement and pay the league fee.

Skill Development

  • Weekly skills sessions led by Coach Steve Brodzinski (“Coach B”), professional skills coach and founder of Maximum Hoops Player Development.

  • Practices focus on game concepts: spacing, moving without the ball, defensive rotations, screening, and more.

3v3 Game Play

  • Begins in January with weekly weekend games.

  • The 3v3 format ensures every player is actively involved, maximizing touches, spacing, and movement.

  • There will still be 5v5 games played.

Commitment

  • Season runs mid-November–early March.

  • November–December: 2 events per week (skills + practice).

  • January–February: 3v3 games on weekends + one weekly skill session.

  • MLBA pinnie required.

🏀 Little Dribblers (Pre-K – 2nd Grade)

The Little Dribblers program introduces our youngest athletes to the game of basketball in a safe, fun, and age-appropriate environment.

  • Focus on fundamentals and development while keeping things exciting and engaging.

  • Positive coaching builds confidence, teamwork, and fitness.

  • Kids make lifelong friendships while learning the game.

Our emphasis is always on growth over wins—helping players love the game while building skills for the future.
